What versions of Windows does Guardian run on?
Guardian can be installed on the following versions of Windows:
Windows 95
Windows 98
Windows ME
Windows NT 4
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Will I need to buy a database application like SQL Server or a web server like IIS to use Guardian?
No. Guardian is FULLY SELF CONTAINED which means that it comes with everything it needs to manage privileges and publish web pages.
Most applications that publish HTML pages that can be viewed in a web browser require that SQL Server, Oracle, or IIS be installed BEFORE their products are installed. This can add up to tens of thousands of dollars in additional software and hardware just to take care of the prerequisites.
Our facility is not allowed to use web based applications. Can we used Guardian?
Probably. Most facilities that prohibit using web based applications do so because they do not want proprietary or personal
information being stored on third-party web servers. This is a very reasonable position that we agree with.
Although Guardian uses a web browser to display published documents, no information is stored (or "hosted") on any
computers outside of your secure network. No data or information is sent anywhere except to your own servers in your
own computer room.
If your IT department disallows "hosted" applications, point them to this page and if they have any questions about
Guardian security they can get additional information by emailing support@dbxsoftware.com.
My IT department blocks all Internet pages. Can I still use Guardian?
Yes. Although you view privilege information from Guardian in a web browser, all files and data that make those files are within your facility's network. In other words, it uses your Intranet, not the Internet, so no connections are made to any servers outside of your facility's network.
The fact that Internet access is not required is a major difference between Guardian and other "online" systems. It means that your IT department is not going to be concerned about security holes.
How many providers can I put in Guardian?
With the unlimited license you can put any number of providers in Guardian. If you have a smaller facility with fewer than 500 providers, less expensive licenses are available as well. Guardian has been successfully tested in real-world situation with over 10,000 providers.
Our facility has three credentials managers. Will I need to buy three copies of Guardian for them to all use it on their computers?
No. Licensing is "per facility". That means that you can install it on as many computers as you like at no additional charge. Several of our current customers have three to five credentials staff members who each have it installed on their computers. This allows several people to work on privileging at the same time, and since they all share the same data they can all see each other's changes.
How many privileges can I put in Guardian?
As with providers, there is no limit to the number of privileges that can be entered into Guardian. The initial installation will provide over 3,000 individual privileges with many pre-packaged "bundles" such as "General Surgery" and "Family Practice". These bundles can contain any number of individual privileges as well.
All Guardian licenses provide unlimited privileges
Our facility uses "Core" privileges. Can we still use Guardian?
Yes! In fact, what you call Core privileges, Guardian calls "Bundles", and you can even rename them to say "Core" instead of "Bundles" using the Guardian Configuration Wizard.
Is it hard to create new privileges?
Absolutely not! Guardian provides a very intuitive, easy to use editor that allows you to quickly:
Create Providers
Create Privileges
Create Bundles
Assign individual and bundled privileges to providers
Publish all privilege information to a web or intranet server

What software is needed to view the published documents?
Published information can be viewed in any HTML browser. This includes:
Internet Explorer
Netscape
Opera
Mozilla
Many Others
Basically, if
a computer is networked and has a web browser (which all
versions of Windows have), you can view Guardian's publications.
Can I customize the look of the published pages?
Yes. All HTML output from Guardian is based on templates. You can run Guardian using the templates as they are provided, or if
you have an HTML editor such as Front Page you can change them to fit your intranet's look.
How hard is Guardian to install?
Not hard at all. Detailed step-by-step instructions are provided with your license purchase and an installation wizard assists in getting the initial settings configured.
Most customers typically spend less than an hour installing it.
How secure is Guardian?
The short answer is: As secure as your network. Guardian uses the built-in security of the Windows network to limit access to data files and published output to only the people who are authorized to access them.
Can I get reports from the data I put in?
Yes! Guardian comes with a complete Reporting Toolikt that uses Microsoft Access' database design tools to create custom Guardian reports. There are also many commonly used reports already installed.
Why is Guardian so inexpensive?
What's the catch?
Guardian is good software at a good price. While many companies will require a huge amount of money up front just to get their product installed, we at dBx Solutions have a different philosophy. We feel that Guardian will benefit nearly any medical facility and that "seeing is believing". By licensing Guardian on an annual basis, we put it within the reach of medical facilities of all sizes.
We believe that once you start using Guardian you will be "hooked" and purchase it again when the annual license period expires. We would rather show you how good it is and charge an amount that is easily budgeted than expect you to invest tens of thousands of dollars in a product that you have no experience with. And with the annual license, you never have to worry about buying upgrades since they are included at no extra charge.
So the catch is: Once you start using Guardian, you will want to keep using it.
Not a bad catch! |
