Of all of the things you can give, your time and energy are the most valuable.

Are you ready to really make a difference in some homeless animals lives? You can put your unique skills and
talents to work and make a direct impact on these pets' lives. Volunteering is flexible and easy. You can give one
hour or one day per week, or you can help out with special event, rescues, and intake care. No matter what your
talents may be in, we can find a place for you to put the to work for the good of those who cannot help themselves.

Rescues:
As an animal rescue, we never know where our next call may send us. Each time the phone rings, there is a good chance
that someone will be reporting a litter of puppies or kittens beside the highway or under an abandoned building. We have
rescued animals from abandoned industrial sites, under collapsed houses, and out of grave yards. We have been called out at
all hours of the day and night in every kind of weather. And when the call comes, we know we have to go. Usually the animals
are on the brink of starvation or exposure and response time is critical.
This is the front lines of animal rescue. If you have a flexible schedule that allows you to be "on call" for rescue assistance and
you would like to help "bring 'em in", this would be a great area for you to volunteer in.

Intake Care:
While it is often exciting and rewarding, removing the animals from a dangerous or bad situation is only the beginning. Before the
shelter can get them into nice warm beds with fresh food and water, a lot of work has to be done. This is often done at night or in
poor weather and requires a true dedication to helping them.
If you have a flexible schedule and are interested in being "hands on" involved in rescue, this is a good place to volunteer.

Special Events:
After a pet is rescued, cleaned up, nursed back to health, immunized, and spayed or neutered, the real fun starts. Dixie Adoptables holds special events and
adoption fairs throughout the year. These are often done in conjunction with other local events and festivals and gets the adoptable pets out in the public
eye where someone is almost sure to fall in love with them. These events need the work of volunteers to work with local businesses to secure sponsorship and
donations, help set up and staff the adoption booth, care for the animals throughout the day (feeding, watering and walking) and talk with prospective adopters.
If you enjoy planning and helping with events and interacting with the public, you should consider volunteering to help with special events.
